Find out all the info you need to know before visiting the Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote. Don’t miss out on anything!

Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote is the first art, culture, and tourism centre created by artist César Manrique, and for many is the epitome of his aesthetic ideology: harmony between nature and artistic creation.

Lanzarote is an enchanting island in every respect. Its architecture, volcanic and lunar landscapes, beaches, vineyards, people… There’s a wealth of interesting places to explore on this small island, and one of the things that’s an absolute ‘must’ when visiting Lanzarote is Los Jameos del Agua. It’s impossible not to be inspired by the calm and almost magical atmosphere of this volcanic cave in northern Lanzarote. The natural, faintly lit lake inside the cave is home to a unique and endemic species of albino crab, and there’s also a café, that’s a great place to stop for a drink and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

It was César Manrique who had the vision to transform what was the collapsed roof of a volcanic tube with lava flowing from the Volcán de La Corona on the north of the island into a unique place in the world. His brilliant mind designed what we know today as Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote. On every corner, from the entrance covered by large green ferns where small birds sing, to its original, auditorium unique in the world for its geological and acoustic characteristics. In Jameos del Agua each and every details is a constant invitation to soul search, aspire and daydream.

Los Jameos del Agua also deserves a special mention for being the home to the small crabs and cultural activities. Together with the cave that’s home to the ‘Jamelitos’ is a garden filled with palm trees with a man-made lake and a museum devoted to volcanos with several interactive activities. The auditorium built inside the volcanic cave also hosts concerts and events in this unique setting.

The BlueBay Lanzarote Hotel is just 25km from the Jameos del Agua volcanic tunnel and is one of the best places to stay on the island. Located 15km from the Guacimeta airport (ACE), the hotel is a complex of white-washed buildings in keeping with Canarian architecture that offers a unique setting in an all inclusive resort that’s perfect to enjoy your holidays on the island.
