Punta Cana: A destination that never goes out of style



We’re not telling you anything you don’t already know when we say that the Dominican Republic is one of the world’s top tourism destinations with exceptional growth rates year after year. However, if there’s one area that clearly stands out above the rest, it’s Punta Cana, with almost 90% of the tourists who visit the country coming to Punta Cana.

These are tourists who are looking for a relaxing,  sun and beach holidays with incredible views. So, without further ado, let’s check out some of this tourism powerhouse’s attractions!

Lovers of natural luxury will take to Bávaro Beach like a fish to water, the area boasts a great variety of resorts and restaurants serving the very best local gastronomy. UNESCO has also named it one of the best beaches in the world on more than one occasion.

Another favourite is Macao Beach, in the north of the Coconut Coast, which is well-known for its huge expanse of beautiful, clean, unspoilt white sand with very few buildings visible from the beach. Surfing is hugely popular here.

 

From the beaches, we head to Saona Island, one of the largest islands in the Dominican Republic, which can be enjoyed on one of the day trips that pass through the Marina Casa Campo area that is home to numerous famous houses. Another of its big attractions is the National Park of the East with its incredible flora and fauna.

Next stop is Catalina Island, a protected natural park without any buildings. The water temperature here is ideal for all types of watersports. Make sure to check out El Muro (the wall), one of the best diving spots in the Dominican Republic that’s more than 100m deep.

Another highlight is the Blue Hole, located to the far south of Punta Cana, where you should visit the summit of El Farallón, which is known for its spectacular tropical forests full of medicinal plants. Iguabonita Cave is also well worth a visit to check out various species of bats.

The Indigenous Eyes Eco Park is another ‘must’, a private area under the protection of the Punta Cana Ecological Foundation with 12 freshwater pools to enjoy a refreshing dip.
