Marbella always surprises

The city has become Costa del Sol’s best-known brand in the tourism market. Its unbeatable microclimate, beaches, hotel services and gastronomic attractions mean the city continues to gain national and international relevance each year. In 2018, new events and fixtures are added to its regular busy calendar.

The Ironman, one of the world’s toughest and most spectacular sports events touches down in Marbella this year. It will be the fourth test of its kind in Spain with 50 qualifying spots up for grabs for the Triathlon World Championship. This top-level sports event takes place on Aril 29th with the organisers choosing Marbella because of its fantastic weather conditions and infrastructure.

Marbella will host the Ironman 70.3, where contestants swim 1.9km in the open sea, cycle for 90km, and finish with a 20km run. The city will now join an elite circuit of races in countries like the United States, Canada, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Dubai.

This autumn the city also welcomes the International Tourism Forum, which will focus on the Spanish tourism sector and its development and projection at an international level. This is an important event hosted by the Marbella City Council, the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Spanish Government and Turespaña, a public entity. Quality and sustainable tourism will be the pillars of this international fixture.

Returning to the world of sport, another highlight will be the 3rd edition of the Senior Masters Cup where the all-time tennis legends meet again at the Puente Romano Tennis Club. Over the course of the tournament, John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, Pat Cash, Yannick Noah and Carlos Moya will transform Marbella into a world-class tennis capital yet again. We also know that the Vuelta a España cycling stage race is returning to the streets of Marbella with its colour and atmosphere for the next edition of the race.

The Starlite Marbella shows will also be back to fill the city’s nightlife with great music, art and glamour at the incredible Nagüeles quarry. A classic event in the Marbella summer that has managed to attract many big names over the years like Elton John, Lenny Kravitz, Carlos Santana, Robert Plant, Julio Iglesias and Alejandro Sanz.

Marbella was, is, and always will be fashionable. The car manufacturer Seat recently announced its plans to jump on the electric bandwagon with a model called Marbella, in tribute to its mythical car from the 1980s.

Enjoy these events and a whole lot more from BlueBay Banus****, one of the Costa del Sol’s leading hotels with an unmistakable Andalusian flavour, just a few metres from Puerto Banús, one of the world’s leading icons of luxury and glamour.
