Why you should visit Dubai. Grab a pen and paper…

Dubai has become a global reference when it comes to absolute luxury. It’s where the whole world wants to visit, the city of the future and one of the fastest growing and expanding tourist destinations this century. Here are a few reasons why Dubai is proving so popular.

Architectural wonders and distinctive skyline. The Emirates is home to the world’s most modern cities with buildings that look like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, with impressive examples of modern-day architecture that appear to twist on their own axis. The Khalifa Tower is undoubtedly the most well-known skyscraper and a symbol of the Emirate’s economic power. This 828m tower was unveiled to the public in 2010 and is the tallest building in the world.

Excellent cuisine. Flavours can be local, regional or global. Food is never a problem in Dubai with close to 200 nationalities living in the city. You’re guaranteed to find a real feast with an array of culinary offerings like Arabic dishes, Mediterranean food, Latin American tastiness and a wide range of Asian delicacies, along with many other dishes from all over the world.

Shopping centres and its consumption capacity. For shopping lovers, it’s the closest thing on earth to paradise. The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping centre with 1200 shops selling leading international brands, a huge aquarium with 33,000 species of marine animals and an Olympic size ice skating rink. It also includes the Dubai Fountains with its choreographed water, lights and sound system. And for those looking to buy traditional products, there’s nothing better than the souks. The Deira Gold Souk offers a surprising array of gold, pearls and precious stones.

Palm Jumeirah, a modern marvel of civil engineering. Some of the most opulent mansions in the emirate are found on this amazing palm-shaped artificial island. Seven million tonnes of stone and 120 million cubic metres of sand were used to create the island’s 31km of surface area.

The desert’s beauty and eternal stillness. Kilometres and kilometres of dunes form the Emirate’s natural landscape, only altered by the cement and skyline of this immense city. A never ending desert to set your heart racing as you cross it in a 4×4, observe a falcon show, amble around on a camel and finish up the day with a dinner lying back on rugs on the sand.

Sport as a philosophy of life. All types of sports are possible in the Emirates. There’s even an artificial ski station with 22,500m2 of slopes and five levels of difficulty at the Mall of the Emirates. You can play golf at midnight on three different courses: Emirates Golf Club, The Track at Meydan and The Montgomerie. If you’re after a rush of adrenaline, then check out the SkyDive Dubai skydiving simulator or sandboarding in the dunes in the desert. The Gulf waters are also ideal for fishing, jet-skiing, parasailing, scuba diving and other activities. And you can swim with the dolphins at the Dubai Dolphinarium.

Mosques and historic buildings. There are no shortage of mosques in Dubai and all over the Emirates, but the most impressive has to be Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi. Its white, pristine, awe-inspiring architecture was created using materials brought from Greece, Italy, Germany, China, Austria, India and New Zealand. The four minarets all have 24-carat gold, and the 82 domes of different sizes represent the values of Islamic culture.
