Switch Off! Top Tips for Relaxing Vacations

We spend the whole year looking forward to our vacation, but it can be all too easy to lose hours of precious downtime through stressful traveling or worrying about work. Take steps to reduce stress whilst away, and at the airport, with our top tips for relaxing vacations.

Start your Stress Free Vacation at the Airport.

First of all, try to avoid the dreaded 3am dash to the airport if you can by taking an afternoon flight to your destination. This may be more expensive but you’ll be able to make the most of your first day, rather than spending it recovering in your hotel room! If this isn’t going to be possible, make traveling as stress-free as possible by booking your airport parking well in advance and, if your jetting off before sunrise consider taking advantage of the park and stay offers available at many airports.

Book a Transfer.

There’s nothing worse than arriving in an unfamiliar country after a long flight with no idea of how you’re going to continue on with your journey. Don’t leave it to chance, book a transfer to your hotel from the airport. This can often be organized through your hotel.

Don’t Over Plan.

When visiting a new city or resort there’s sure to be plenty on your bucket list. However, it’s important to avoid the temptation of planning your trip down to the minute and turning what’s supposed to be a stress free vacation into a list ticking exercise. When putting together your vacation itinerary make sure you include some free time in which to relax. What constitutes a relaxing vacation will be different for everybody – you might like to unwind on the beach with a good read, or prefer soaking up the sounds and smells of the city by taking a walk through its neighborhoods.

Get a Work/Vacation Balance.

The whole point of a vacation is to switch off from work, but this can be easier said than done. In fact, a complete digital detox can be counterproductive, making you stress more about work, not less! Instead, consider limiting your screen time to half an hour a day, and take steps to ensure that any issues can be dealt with by the rest of the team in your absence.

Get Active.

Whether it be a scuba dive, yoga class or round of golf, exercise is a fantastic stress reliever. Many of BlueBay’s hotels and resorts offer a range of sports facilities including swimming pools, gyms and water sports, and are available to help you book excursions such as horse riding and golfing if you wish. If the idea of exercising on vacation fills you with dread, why not indulge in a relaxing spa treatment instead? You are on vacation after all! Got a tip for relaxing vacations to add to our list?
