A Day of Adventure Around Puerto Plata

The Dominican Republic is the second largest island in the Caribbean, so it’s no surprise that there is a lot to do in this tropical paradise.  Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south, hanging out on the beach and playing in the surf is the name of the game here. Adrenaline junkies love this day of adventure in and around Puerto Playa.

Nestled in a cove on the north side of the Dominican Republic, the BlueBay Villas Doradas is a perfect home base for exploring the island’s natural beauty. Begin the day with a stunning hike up to a waterfall followed by a kite surfing lesson and dinner at one of Puerto Plata’s most in-demand restaurants, Le Papillon.

Hiking, Swimming and Cliff Jumping at the Damajaqua Cascades (27 Waterfalls)

Located just west of Puerto Plata along the Damajaqua River, the Damajaqua Cascades (also known as the 27 waterfalls) are a national monument and one of the most thrilling experiences in Puerto Plata. Only about a 30-minute drive from the BlueBay Villas Dorados hotel, it’s best to head here first, arriving early before the crowds arrive.

First, decide how many of the 27 waterfalls you wish to see, on which your entrance fee will be based. Most travelers opt to explore 12 of the 27 waterfalls. Included in the price of admission are a helmet, life jacket and guide.

After a hike of about 25 minutes to reach the cascades, head back down by sliding down or jumping off of a series of waterfalls! For many of our guests, this adventure is a trip highlight.

Grab lunch in Cabarete

Head over to Cabarete and grab lunch at one of the many beachside casual restaurants. The drive is only about 30 minutes from Puerto Plata on a beautiful coastal road.

Cabarete is a small, laid-back Caribbean beach village packed with hip bars and restaurants. Wander down the beach and head into one of the many delicious beachfront restaurants for a bite to eat.

Take a Kitesurfing Lesson in Puerto Plata

After lunch, get ready for more adventure! Cabarete is also home to some of the best kitesurfing and windsurfing beaches in the Caribbean, and now it’s your turn to try your hand at this popular sport.

Kiting in Dominican Republic

On Cabrete’s Kite Beach you’ll find perfect kitesurfing conditions. With constant trade winds and warm water year-round, this is a perfect place to learn the sport.

Choose from one of about ten kitesurfing schools and embark on a three-hour lesson. Don’t miss checking out the expert kitesurfers off on the reef, about 300 meters from the shoreline, showing off their moves.

Dinner at Le Papillon, Puerto Plata’s Hottest Table

Le Papillon is perhaps the hottest table in Puerto Plata. It’s imperative to make reservations well in advance, as here you’ll find only eight total tables creating a truly intimate dining experience.

Expect to be greeted by Tomas, the owner, as your waiter escorts you to your table. Enjoy one of the night’s complimentary appetizer before digging into dinner. The menu includes everything from filet béarnaise to fresh surf and turf.
