Sea turtles egg-laying, advice not to interrupt them

From early summer until October, takes place the time of egg-laying for sea turtles. We want to give you some tips so that these small reptiles live the experience in the most appropriate way possible.

The female sea turtle swims lonely towards the shore , feeling the urge to get out of the sea and crawl through the sand, where they themselves were born, about nine years ago. After the whole day, when night falls, it’s time. Female sea turtles decide to nest and  seek a safe place to deposit their eggs. To do this, they dig a deep, warm and wet little hole.

Although thousands of tourists come from all over the coast, there is a maximum number of tourists allowed to visit daily, no to disturb the egg-laying process. This is a very fragile ecosystem.

First, the security perimeter must be respected. We must not disturb or intimidate them with our presence, as they need some peace and privacy to lay the eggs. If they feel tense they won’t lay eggs in the area, as they will consider it to be unsafe.

Our second tip is that you should not make too many pictures or use flash. Photos are not to their liking and bother them.

Once the eggs are left alone in the hole, they need protection. Therefore, it is advisable to surround them with a kind of bar cage, so that the crabs, birds and other animals can not gain access to the eggs and eat them.

Later, small turtles will be born and take course towards the sea. From the nest to the sea they can find a lot of predators, so it is good to help them arrive safe and sound to the sea.

With this advice we can surely take care of them properly. Together we can help them survive!
