Where do you Eat on Holiday Onsite

What to Eat on Holiday

Holidays are so often a time when people relax; whether by lying in the sun or spending time doing something they love like golf or surfing. Those precious days are also a time when day to day worries, like ‘what’s for dinner’ aren’t at the forefront because there are a wealth of choices available, from the options provided at the hotel, to room service to the local restaurants and specialities. The food on holiday is one of the main joys for most people of the time they spend away, and we feel like where we eat will certainly have an impact on the kind of memories we’ll take away from a place.

A survey recently conducted by the BlueBay group in the UK asked Brits what they really thought of the food they could eat on holiday, when they were feeling brave enough to try something new and whether the food available was one of the major reasons for choosing to holiday in a specific place.

Making the Most of Local Cuisine

Of the people asked, 31% said that they go on holiday mostly for the local cuisine. The majority though, over fifty per cent (54%) said that trying new foods is something that they consider once they’re arrived at their hotel, but isn’t really a major factor in the locations they choose for their holiday.

We’ve all had the experience of trying to find the best places to eat whilst we’re away from home, and although many people said that they usually eat at or near their hotels, there was a clear pattern of people (43%) saying that they’d take their chances and eat in a restaurant or café that they found when walking past it, as long as it was busy or not too expensive.

Planning Holidays around Food

Just fewer than twenty per cent of people surveyed said that they planned their entire trips around eating out, saying that they’d choose a location for one of their meals and base their sightseeing around the neighbourhood or region where they’d eventually go to eat.

As you can tell from the 61% of people who said they’re very open to the idea of trying local dishes, there are lots of adventurous travellers out there! That being said, our survey shows that there are still some concerns about eating local food: the majority of those asked (54%) said that they thought becoming ill on holiday was a possibility, and 9% said that they felt cautious before dining on the specialities of their destination.

Even though many people were happy to try new foods and try something they’ve never had before, over fifty per cent of respondents appreciate the option of eating at the hotel.

Dining is Relaxing

There is nothing like a long day beside the pool or on the beach before quickly sprucing yourself up to head downstairs for a beautiful meal without having to worry about finding a great restaurant.

What do you tend to do when you’re on holiday, and do you have a favourite destination because of the food you can try?
