of admiration. Eminent musicians like Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Al Jarreau, George Benson, Mike Stern, Sergio Mendes, Richard Bona and Stanley Clarke, jazz icons with several Grammy Awards, took to the stage set in the idyllic beaches of the Riviera Maya .

In 2012, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the Festival has prepared a lineup that promises to make history. The trumpet player, composer, arranger and piano player Joe D’Etienne and his Big Band will kick off the festival with a performance on November 22, the first day of the festival. Next in line will be the legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo who will marvel festival goers with a mix of Latin Rhythms and jazz. The closer of this first day is the 5-time Grammy award winning musician and talented bass player Victor Wooten.

On Friday November 23, Nortec will get the crowds dancing with its mix of traditional Mexican, electronic and dance music. Next in line is Poncho Sanchez, one of the most influential conga players and percussionists in Afro-Cuban Jazz. This day will have a swinging end with the legendary British sophisti-pop and rock band Level 42 who were very famous in the ‘80s with their number one hit songs “Lessons in Love” and “Someone like you”

The last day of the Festival will open with Aguamala, a group born in Playa del Carmen and the host band of the Riviera Maya Jazz festival that will charm the   audience with a fine mix of jazz with touches of rock and funk. The 6-time Grammy Award winner and one of the most significant and prolific saxophonists and composers in jazz and modern music Wayne Shorter will perform after Aguamala. Finally, the festival will close with the masterful Jazz improviser John Scofield whose music falls somewhere between post-bob, funk, edged jazz and R&B.

The Festival returns to Playa Mamitas (Playa del Carmen), a spectacular beach that contributes to etching the magic and beauty of the event into our memory.
